Summer is upon us and that means we\u2019ll all be spending a lot more time outdoors. Keeping your pet cool is imporant as temperatures rise, and one of the best ways to do this is to jump in the pool!<\/span><\/p>\n

We\u2019ve put together a few quick tips for pet pool safety so you can have the best swimming experience with your pet!<\/p>\n

MAKE SURE YOUR DOG KNOWS HOW TO SWIM<\/h4>\n

Contrary to popular belief, not all dogs know how to swim right away.\u00a0 Take it slow on your pool steps, or in a kiddie pool before having them jump right into the deep end. You may want to get a life jacket for your dog and see if that gives him a bit more confidence!<\/p>\n

Your dog\u2019s breed does not determine whether he or she will be a strong swimmer.\u00a0 Your pet\u2019s personality does!\u00a0 Breed does matter (American or French bulldogs are in fact notoriously poor swimmers) but know that it does not set the final word.<\/p>\n

PRACTICE OBEDIENCE TRAINING BEFORE JUMPING IN<\/h4>\n

Your pup should always come when you call, and swimming in the pool should be no exception.<\/p>\n

NEVER LEAVE YOUR PUP UNSUPERVISED<\/h4>\n

He or she could get tired or swallow some water so you should always be ready to spring into action! Unfortunately, pet drownings do happen, and if you have a senior, or a disabled pet you\u2019ll want to be extra careful. The same goes for anytime you\u2019re swimming with two or more dogs. Make sure each pup is okay with being in the pool at the same time. Some can become anxious, try to nip their friend, or climb on top of them!<\/p>\n

SHOW YOUR PET HOW TO GET OUT OF THE POOL<\/h4>\n

Once your pup is in the water take a moment to teach them how, and where to exit the pool. \u00a0If your pup can\u2019t find their way out, he will just keep swimming until he gets anxious or tired.<\/p>\n

POOL WATER ISN\u2019T DRINKING WATER<\/h4>\n

Chlorine and other chemicals found in your pool aren\u2019t safe for drinking. If he happens to swallow a bit, it\u2019s no big deal but he should have access to a separate water bowl nearby.<\/p>\n

RINSE OFF AFTER ALL THE FUN<\/h4>\n

Chlorine can dry out their skin so you\u2019ll want to rinse it all off. Plus, it\u2019s a great opportunity to give them a quick bath!<\/p>\n
